Gabriel Toolan Lectures at UCC Annual Environmental Conference
In 2023 Mr. Toolan gave a paper / lecture on the concept of Rights of Nature and spoke on the evolution of the concept particularly in the United Staes. He traced the development of the concept through a line of thinkers from Henry David Thoreau, John Muir, Aldo Leopold and Rachel Carson and discussed Prof. Stone’s book, “Can Trees Have Standing”.
At the 2024 Conference Mr.Toolan spoke on the topic of the Right to a Healthy Environment, specifically looking at the pro’s and cons of such a constitutional right. He examined the dicta in the judgements of the Merrian Case and Climate Case Ireland and examined same through the prism of arguments presented by Dr,David R. Boyd in his book, “The Right to a Healthy Environment”.
